As GPs increasingly adopt AI scribes, patient data security is raising concerns.

Almost 25% of Australian GPs now use AI for note-taking, according to the Australian Medical Association (AMA).

Dr. Robert Holian of Bendigo Primary Care Centre found AI scribes helpful for patient engagement, reducing fatigue, and managing complex consultations.

However, UNSW law expert Professor Mimi Zou warns of potential data risks due to lack of AI regulation in Australia.

The AMA advocates for AI as a supportive tool, with decision-making remaining with doctors. The federal government is considering mandatory AI guidelines, while informed patient consent is crucial. The future of AI scribes as a standard practice remains uncertain.
